我谈谈自己对本科生活以及研究生这两年学习生活的理解。
(1)本科阶段：本科四年里没有了高中三年的那种压力，但是现在回想那时的自己就像一只井底之蛙，只知道学好专业课，与外界的交流很少。
现在一些实力很强大学的学生在大二就开始跟着老师搞科研，接受科研训练，同时学校提供很多创新项目支持他们，我现在真的好羡慕他们。
我那是学校没有平台，也没有老师的引导，我对科研知之甚少。
但考研一年的时间，我还是学到了很多，学会了坚持，学会了自我调节，让自己变得更坚强，更独立与自信。
(2)硕士研究生阶段：硕士两年里虽然取得的成果比较少，但是前两年的时间里是一个积累的阶段，也是开始认识科研的阶段。

知识储备：
由于自己的专业所限，读研期间主要的研究方向是课程与教学论，尤其是关于国外教师方面的工作做得比较多，因此可以说在课程与教学论方面的专业知识积累的比较丰富之余，哲学领域涉足的不完全。但是哲学却一直是我的兴趣所在，也是我专业之余学习和阅读的主要的书目。西方的苏格拉底到“后现代”，中国的孔子到“现代儒学”，一直都是我感兴趣的阅读领域。另外，文化学、人类学，甚至宗教学等都是我经常涉猎和翻阅的图书。或者可以用“由博返约”来形容我的知识学习观，个人认为如果没有广博的知识积淀，就无法对教育问题作出深入的分析和探讨。
研究工作：
读研期间曾经协助导师申请了重庆市重点课题《基于教师专业发展的教师督导策略研究》的申报工作，这一课题现在已经审批成功并在着手研究中。参译了导师主持的《教师督导和评价——理论和实践的结合》一书十、十一章的翻译工作。另外自己在《外国教育研究》等学术期刊上发表正规学术论文七八篇之余。
学习计划：
一直以来对于中国古代文化有着深厚的感情，在阅读现代教育类的着作和论文时也总是觉得都是外国的东西多，从中国古代文化中挖掘的内容不够。因此，一直以来有一个设想，能够从中国古代自身的思想出发构建一些真正属于我们自己的教育学思想。虽然这还只是一个初步的设想，但是读博期间我会朝着这个方向去作出自己的努力。关于具体的学习计划，其实一直深感自己所读的书还甚少，大量的着作都还需要自己的品阅，因此读书仍是读博期间的一大要务。
就业目标：

今年八月，我将前往美国西雅图的华盛顿大学（University of Washington），在杰克逊国际关系学院（The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies）攻读博士学位，方向为中国政治。
关于选校
就博士申请而言，我的选校的不靠谱程度，等于“盲人骑瞎马，夜半临深池”。方可成总结自己的博士申请选校，是按照赵鼎新的建议，“广种薄收”。而他也很感谢赵鼎新的建议，因为结果完全验证了这一点。就我所知，申请十个以上的项目都很常见，算得上“广种”的基准线；也有申请二十多个的。其中有碰运气的因素，因为你也不知道招生委员会到底看中什么，何况不同学校的招生委员会口味也不同，没有一定准则。
选校是很考验申请者知识储备和眼光的一件事，选校和定位的靠谱程度对申请结果有着决定性的影响。靠谱的选校，要求申请者对自己、和对自己所要研究的学科和主题有着一定的了解：了解学术史的谱系，了解当下的研究前沿，了解自己的研究兴趣。归结到操作化的一点上，就是要知道在你要去的国家，目前有哪些与你兴趣和风格相关的学校和教授，开设可供申请的项目，从中选择十到二十个。在这一点上做的比较好的，要么是国内较好的高校科班出身，长期追踪某一学科的研究动态，训练扎实；或者要么是美本或美硕，占有天然信息优势。对一些非正式渠道传播的消息八卦，例如教授们的人事变迁，他们也有着了解。这些“圈内”信息的重要性，有时甚至远远高于通过正式渠道获得的信息。
反观我自己，基本上可以说处在一个信息盲区。一方面，我是半路出家，改换门庭，基础训练不扎实，也很难找到前辈指导，毕竟不同学科的申请差异较大。()另一方面，我没有海外训练的背景，甚至没有交流经历，对美国学界新近的研究成果、在我的兴趣上可供申请的项目、不同院校的课程设置和方法论倾向、近些年招收中国学生的状况、以及奖学金情况，一概不知。一直到申请结束后等待结果的一两个月里，我才腾出空来在寄托家园人文社科版、Gradcafe上翻阅了大量这样的信息。我才知道我申请的一个项目中我感兴趣的教授即将跳槽到另一个学校，而另一个项目最近好几年没招过中国学生。而在申请之前，我确实没有时间和精力梳理这些散落在讨论帖中的`只言片语，而“圈内人”自然容易以相对较小的成本，在各种正式和非正式场合获得这些信息。
总体来说，我的博士选校是很危险和不靠谱的：光打酱油的就占了一半多，而top program是既需要实力也需要运气的。我的准备还远远不够。选校失误的主要原因在于如前所叙的信息的局限。我的笨拙的选校方法是，在围绕感兴趣的问题所读的英文文献的索引中寻找可能的教授和项目。由于对裴宜理的研究感兴趣，我主要读了她的论文和著作，可惜这个方法太低效，没有找到太多合适的项目。我当时甚至不知道按照US-news的专排来选校。后来想要多申一些项目时，时间上已经来不及，因为博士项目一般截止较硕士项目为早。
虽然没有“广种”，最后还能“薄收”，一方面要感谢运气，另一方面也说明我还是有一些优势。最主要的一点大概是我对自己的认知和定位很清晰。在SOP里，我把自己想要做什么，为什么要做，过去曾为此做过什么准备，都串联起来，展现给招生委员会。因为学术训练不足，我主要强调了自己的实践经历和工作经验。对现实的观察和思考引导我走向博士项目，我需要通过规范化的训练，学习分析它们的方法，解决切身观察、体验到的问题。一个替我改SOP的哈佛女生的评价是：it is very logical。杨老师说读我的SOP给人的感觉是，好像我一开始就想得很清楚，规划的很好，一步一步这么走过来。事实上我完全是磕磕碰碰摸索，只是后来通过思考和表达把它呈现的很清晰。
对于后来的申请者，我在这方面所能分享的失误教训大于成功经验。占有信息非常重要。申请者最好早日留意和积累相关信息，多看国外学术期刊，了解研究动态。这不是一朝一夕之功，临时抱佛脚是不成的。本专业的要利用本来的优势，尤其是咨询已经出国的师兄师姐。当然，尽信书不如无书，毕竟申请这事，从结果推论过程，未必可靠。可能就跟盲人摸象似的，有人摸到象鼻子，就说重要的是象鼻子，有人摸到象腿，就坚持重要的是象腿。路是自己走的，要有自己的判断。转专业的没这个优势，多方面努力吧。另外一个可行的办法是根据US-news的专排，把自己专业前50的院校和项目梳一遍。这都需要时间和精力，因此选校方面最好是尽早准备和积累。
软硬件：SOP/推荐信/GPA/GT
常常有人问这些指标中哪一项最重要，我自己也为这个问题困扰过。现在，基于我“摸象”的经验和结果，我的结论是SOP是最重要的，因为在GPA、GT和推荐信都不算非常strong、转专业、没有publication的情况下，可能是SOP给了我一线生机。相比GPA和GT这些干巴的数据，SOP是比较“软”而信息丰富的：它集中展现了我的经历，个人体验，和研究兴趣，给了申请者补救短板、展现个性和潜力的机会。
我的本科GPA和硕士GPA都不高，因为在读书阶段，我从来没有认真考虑过从事研究工作，也因此没有好好利用在校时的学术资源。GT分数尚可，但GRE的AW部分才3分，托福的口语部分22分，因此限制了申请一些卡单项的学校。比如波士顿大学对口语要求好像是26；尽管傅士卓的方向和我比较符合，但也没有申，现在想来有点后悔。因为有些学校可能不一定因为单项刷人，会有条件录取，让申请者补考托福。
我只能说，in my case, GPA和GT相对没有那么重要。当然，不管怎么说，高分总比低分好。但是，到了申请的阶段，GPA已经难以改变，GT虽然可以刷分，但是需要付出时间、精力和人民币，其收益却难以保证。譬如，我一共考了两次托福，主要想刷口语分，但两次分数都一样。而那时我还没有开始写SOP和Writing Sample。于是第二次分数出来后我就退考了第三次托福，因为好好准备文书会比单项提高个几分带来更高的边际收益。
至于推荐信，申请结束后我在论坛上看到有人讨论说，top program“基本是靠信进去的”。我无从判断这句话的可靠程度。只能说，能够找到美国学术圈圈内人写推荐信，效果大概要好些。至少在推荐信造假普遍的背景下，美国教授推荐的信用程度总是高一些。我的推荐信是原专业的导师、在报社工作时的两位领导潘总和何总写的。虽然很可惜未能得到未来专业学术领域的评价，但是这三封信无疑对我过去的学习和工作情况何以能胜任未来的研究，作了中肯和有力的推荐。尤其是潘总和何总对我在新闻领域工作的肯定，我相信对我进入一个强调解决real-world problems的项目起过重要作用。在此向我的三位推荐人，特别是潘总和何总表示感谢。
套磁和其他
由于各种原因，我没有进行任何套磁。此前看到差不多的说法，都是博士套磁有用，硕士没有必要。我无从判断，但根据申请结果，硕士确实要比博士申请容易许多。毕竟硕士基本上是自费的，而博士是拿钱的。
在博士的奖学金结果没有出来前，我曾犹豫过是否再读一个硕士项目作为跳板。坦白地说，在留学党越来越多的情况下，与美本或美硕竞争，我没有优势，也像方可成的文章中那般踌躇：获得浸润在社会的实际运行中的经验，却没有学术性地研究它的训练积累。xxx在一篇访谈里说“中国来的学者当然知道中国社会，但是缺乏分析这个社会的方法”，大概也是这个意思。但是世间哪得双全法，对我来说，再花两年的时间和几十万去走一个跳板，实在不是一个容易做的决定。所幸后来收到了award letter, 也就不犹豫了。
对于还有时间成本，对未来道路还在摇摆中的申请者来说，申请国外硕士项目应该是很好的跳板，进可攻，退可守，难度也较低，好像也可以申请留学基金委的资助。如果不想负担经济开支，想本科直接申请博士，可能要付出更多努力优化各项指标才行。
我理解的出国申请是一项充满变数的系统工程。它有一些大致的方向路径，但并没有哪一项指标是板上钉钉的决定性因素，可能一个不曾留意的小小扰动，也会影响全局。即使走过这段历程的过来人，也无法拍着胸脯保证一条康庄大道，或是必胜秘籍。对于那些手持一条象腿就好像洞察了全局的人或说法，最好保持怀疑，因为“没有一个受人尊敬的结论不事先阐述自己的局限的”。
我理解的博士生活和学术研究也是如此--明了自己的努力和贡献永远都是有局限的。正如下面这幅图阐释的那样，数年殚精竭虑或许只能为人类的知识贡献一个小小的突起--这还是最好的结果之一。
尽管如此，它仍然值得我投身其中，满怀趣味、热情和期待。我曾坐在一辆挤得像罐头一样”校车”中，它是一辆核载十多人的旧面包车，却塞进了二十多个农民工子弟小学的学生。去社区家访发现这些家庭因为男孩偏好而普遍超生，尽管支持已有的孩子上学已不容易；这个小学还曾因城市规划被数次强拆。他们是弱势群体和利益受损者，却也是政策的违抗者：宏观的结构和微观的行动者在这里形成一个复杂的纽结。我试图以人类学家的方式接触和观察形形色色的官员：有浑水摸鱼的跑路党，有精明实干者，也有酒色之徒。有“不喝酒人生有什么意义”的，也有为了工作和前途喝到赔上身体的。在某个地方区政府门口我见过一群上访乡民，领导的车开过来，一个干瘦的老太太搬着椅子堵在正中间不让走。两个二十出头的武警小伙一边一个把老太太连人带椅端起来，抬轿子似的抬到边上去了。那一刻在场的所有人都笑了起来--包括小伙子和老太太，也包括我--好像他们的关系是再平常不过的祖孙似的。它颠覆了我对抗争和集体行动的刻板认知。一种文化、一个社会是如此复杂而多维，任何一种诠释、理论和意识形态都不能将其垄断。正是由于有着知识之间的缝隙和断裂点，而填补这些缝隙又能帮助理解和改善我们的生活，智识的探寻和开拓才会不仅有趣，还有意义。如果我的探索能为曾见过、交谈过也试图理解过的那些酒局官场、利益博弈中的人，在困扰他们的某些人类知识尚未到达的昏暗之处，投上一束理性的光，也就足够甚至是奢望了。

It’s my honor to have opportunity for this interview. My name is Zhong Keyuan, 27 years old. My hometown is Ganzhou in Jiangxi province. I received my Bachelor degree in Jiangxi Normal University majored in geographical science. Now I am studying in Fujian Normal major is natural resources.
I have acquired some basic knowledge of distributed hydrological erosion model during my graduate years and published a research paper in journal of natural resources. I have built up a daily runoff and sediment Annualized Agricultural Non-point Source Pollution model (AnnAGNPS) in Shanmei reservoir basin in Fujian province. And Im interested in the uncertainty of the distributed hydrological erosion model and I want continue my research.
